Maple Valley Farm LLC
Maple Valley Farm's primary interest is in facilitating bees, not just honey bees, from the perspective of creating more forage from which bees can gather nectar and pollen over spring, summer, and fall. Thereby honey production is maximized on a local basis to mitigate hive destruction from pesticides, herbicides and fungicides while reducing these toxins into our local food chain. The intent will be to replicate our experience in terms of offering this as a service to hobbyists and small farming operations. This will include not only offering seeding as a service but also hive placement and maintenance followed up by local extraction of honey. By having a mobile operation, Maple Valley Farm will be able to provide the beehive host with their own honey while educating them to the process
This is a new business venture springing from an interest in bees and their preservation after hosting and having beehives on our property for the last four years.
Over one third of our food production is dependent on the pollination by bees. There has been a critical loss in the number of beehives throughout America. More importantly, there is a significant decline in the number of beekeepers owing to the loss of hives through CCD, Colony Collapse Disorder, which has now been attributed to the use of herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. To be financially viable as a full time beekeeper 600 hives need to be maintained. Ways have to be found to mitigate this loss and increase the number of bees and other pollinators.
There is also an increasing trend towards organic farming due to the demand for organic produce. Increasingly families are growing their own produce to varying extents and in doing so recognize the vital importance of bees.
Our raw honey is the product of our bees foraging locally on wild flowers. We sell only in 8 oz, 12 oz, and 16 oz glass containers to maintain the purest quality honey. We strive for organic quality and do not use any herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides.
We use Mason jars and refillable Le Parfait jars. Mason jars of course can be reused for canning. Our Le Parfait jars are etched with our company name and can be exchanged for the price of the honey only.
